Don’t pick the bluebonnets. Never go to California. And always remember the Alamo.
Today, March 6, marks the final day of the 13-day standoff at the Alamo between some 200 Texas soldiers, including James Bowie and Davy Crockett, and around 1,500 Mexican soldiers led by General Santa Anna.
An inspiring moment in Texas history and a pivotal battle in the Texas Revolution, the siege of the Alamo preceded the decisive Battle of San Jacinto in current-day Houston, where Texans captured and defeated Santa Anna, while reportedly crying, “Remember the Alamo!” The courage shown by the vastly outnumbered Texas soldiers remains a point of pride for Texans today.
