The most wonderful time of the year is over. And yet your Christmas tree remains.
If you’re looking to put a respectable end to the tree that saw you through the holiday season, you have two easy recycling options.
According to the City of Austin website, if you are a curbside pickup customer all you need to do is leave your tree (devoid of decor) on the curb on your regular collection day. If you opt for this method of recycling, there are a couple things to keep in mind. If your tree if over 6 feet, it should be cut in half, and don’t wrap the tree in a trash bag. Trees with artificial snow will not be accepted for recycling.
If you don’t have curbside pickup, you can also add to Zilker Park’s growing pile of naked Christmas trees by dropping it off on one of three donation days between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 31 has already passed, but you can still drop off on Jan. 7 and 8!
Wondering exactly what will become of your beloved tree? All donated trees will be turned into mulch, which will be available for free to Austin residents starting Jan. 19.
