Texas artist honors fallen Dallas PD officers with 6-foot-tall sand sculpture

For the past two weeks, artist Joaquin Cortez has been creating his own tribute to the five Dallas Police Department officers who died in last month’s attack downtown.

According to Star-Telegram, the 6-foot-tall sand sculpture features a bald eagle perched above the Dallas Police Department seal and the names of the fallen officers.

“I want to create sculptures that mean something,” Cortez said.
The sculpture, which was revealed this week, is located in Mansfield outside of a local pharmacy where Cortez expects his art to stand for about a year.
