According to a news release, emergency crews were alerted upon arrival that the driver was a couple of blocks away from the scene because his dog had run away following the incident. The dog had sustained “some pretty serious-sounding injuries,” which a department spokesperson said appeared to have come from being hit by a car after running away.  When fire crews located the dog, according to the department, both the dog and its owner required medical attention.

The driver was initially uncooperative and focused on the dog, according to the news release, but the man was reassured by the emergency crew and eventually transported to receive care. The dog’s wounds were dressed, and it was transported to a nearby emergency veterinarian clinic. The owner was notified of the dog’s location, and both are expected to make full recoveries, according to the fire department.
